Duplicacy vs arq1/10/2023 You can have it post to an HTML page (read: healthchecks.io) upon failure but that creates additional work / another app to maintain. Right now, it emails every time the job runs. Duplicacy is managing just over 2TB of data for me.ĭuplicacy does have just 1 developer but that dev is very active on the community and has curated a lot of support from prosumer members.ĭuplicacy is missing a big feature for me in that, I want an email alert ONLY when a job fails. Synology -> CloudSync with GDrive AND Synology -> HyperBackup to B2 (using new S3 API). It's fast - really fast, GUI is nice, CLI is very powerful, and it's using slightly less RAM than Arq, although Arq's usage was inline with any other app. I've been running Duplicacy since ~2 days into the v6 release as a "just in case," but that turned into Duplicacy being my only backup app this week. I just moved off Arq completely and over to Duplicacy. Is there a possibility to limit the network bandwidth during backup Moreover, the design of duplicacy is immune to data damage caused by interruption, because it doesn't have a separated database or file to keep track of backups. My experience shows they have no problem to handle this. How does Arq / Duplicacy handle a resume of a canceled backup Duplicacy allows deduplication across machines, which stands out for people who need this. And they both have efficient deduplication. The experience is probably not significant.Īgain, both are fast enough for me. However, my data set is small and simple. My experience is they're both fast, and duplicacy is faster. However, duplicacy don't keep creation timestamps and there seems no plan to support this. Duplicacy support at least all basic permissions and modification timestamp according to the following two links: Since I only tried Duplicacy for a short time period and my data set is much smaller, I'll answer those questions based on my very limited experience and my knowledge on their design (which means you should have enough test yourself :)Īrq 5 preserves all metas on macOS. Thanks in advance and sorry for cross-posting. What are your experiences and which software (mybe other?) can you recommend? A GUI is nice to have - I'm experienced at the command line. The restore performance should (hopefully) not be an issue. Is there a possibility to limit the network bandwith during backup? How is the CPU / IO workload during the backups (scanning 600GB files)? Mac is rebooted / shut down during the backup process)? How does Arq / Duplicacy handle a resume of a canceled backup (e.g. How is the performance for the continuing backups? How is the initial performance for 600GB data? Support for macOS extended file attributes? My questions regarding the differences between Arq 5 and Duplicacy for the offsite backup: I'm a macOS user with about 600GB data and a local (USB) Time machine backup.įor an offsite backup solution, there is a Synology NAS (SSH / SFTP, Minio with S3 is an option) available at the other house. CLI and GUI included.I'm struggling with the decision between Arq 5 (version 6 seems to have stability issues) and Duplicacy: Cross-platform backup tool for Windows, macOS & Linux with fast, incremental backups, client-side end-to-end encryption, compression and data deduplication. BackupPC is a high-performance, enterprise-grade system for backing up to a server's disk. Snapshots can be restored while system is running or from Live CD/USB. Supports scheduled snapshots, multiple backup levels, and exclude filters. Creates filesystem snapshots using rsync+hardlinks, or BTRFS snapshots.
