Cellar at duckworth1/13/2023 ![]() The bartender was making some killer mixed drinks. Lagunitas West-ified, Avery Raspberry Sour, Dormaal Grappa barreled blonde, etc. I went back for dinner later in the week and they had a selection of sours, barrel aged stuff, etc. The first time I was there it was for a Jester King 'dinner', so they had 6 bottles and one tap to choose from. basically I think they are going for the Speakeasy atmosphere. Good acoustics leave only a slight buzz in conversation. There are a few small tables in the middle and then there are about 15 seats at the bar. I guess could seat 60? There is one booth and several tables with both bench and chair seating. When you head in, there's an awesome sliding door. When you get down there, you're greeted by the hostess. Its located directly downstairs from the front entrance of the restaurant. This is the newly opened area to the uptown Duckworth's. If you are looking for the best of the best of the best, then look no further than The Cellar. There is NOTHING about this place that is not first class. Simply put, The Cellar at Duckworth's offers the best dining and drinking experience in Charlotte. I am much more of a beer person than a mixed drink person and I find myself ordering a mixed drink everytime I visit. The mixologist has put together a stellar line-up of innovative, mouthwatering cocktails. He also makes sure we are aware of the rare and special beers that are currently available. Charles, always makes a point to stop by the table to make sure we are having a good time. The staff are some of the most professional and informed people in the business. The bottles of beer available in the bottle cellar represent the best and most rare beers available in the state. Every meal I have had there has represented the best meals I have ever had in Charlotte. The menu is INCREDIBLY invenitve, modern, exciting, and well thought out. I have tried 1000's of different beers in my travels and everytime I go to The Cellar, at least half of the 20 taps are beers that I have never had. Every beer is well thought out and the variety of styles that are on tap at any given time offer something for whatever mood I am in. They have the absolute best tap selection in not just Charlotte but North Carolina. But when I have out-of-town guests, or when there is that special occasion, or when I'm just tired of pandemic life, you can find me here. The Cellar at Duckworth's is exactly what one would expect from a World Class Beer Bar. You'll want to focus on the food and not the price. Just don't come if your credit is close to the limit. Now there's no need to pass out when you get the check. The Cellar at Duckworth's is a bit pricey for my budget. Unquestionably the best dinner to be had in Charlotte. It would be great if the coconut flakes could be lightly browned as well, but I think we'd have to break the laws of physics to do that. Sitting there while my family ate, I fantasized about what that dessert might be: A lightly sweetened rice pancake nicely browned, and crisp on the exterior and soft, warm and moist on the interior, topped with lime or orange sherbert with a small amount of Lemoncello or Grand Marnier drizzled over the top and lightly sprinkled with coconut flakes. You see, I can't eat gluten, and *none* of their desserts are gluten-free. Dessert is the one place where they did not exceed my expectations. The trouble is they can't pause for the shot before they start eating it. They loved the flavor of the cheesecake and whipped cream, and the presentation was worthy of Instagram fame. My family's favorite dessert is the Nutella Cheesecake. Flaky, with crisp exterior (I and they like that contrast.) and leaving you wanting just a taste more but knowing that dessert is still on the agenda. Both were buttery in texture but not soaked in actual butter. I also tried the scallops and the Sea Bass. The crispy exterior and the warm, soft, and done-to-order interior were culinary nirvana. ![]() Still, food is the main attraction, and that does not disappoint either. I have never seen anyone made so happy by getting 'IT' right. And while he was supported by an entire team, including his assistant Zack, he coordinated meeting our needs with grace and joy. Our dining expediter (far more than a waiter), Joey, was also a mixmaster and created a cocktail for me, which matched my mood perfectly. I have eaten at the top of the Marriott in Tokyo and in seaside restaurants in Portugal, and in quaint little places in Marrakesh. But you don't go to Restaurants for the atmosphere as much as for the food and drink. The soft lighting and rustic atmosphere makes it a great atmosphere to relax. The reality is charming, clean, and with the pandemic seating arrangement quite roomy. I know the name is frightening, conjuring up images of dust and dank. The absolute best restaurant in Charlotte is the Cellar at Duckworth's. ![]()
